Recognizing Trailblazing African Americans Within District 15 and Beyond

In celebration of Black History Month, we will be highlighting trailblazing African-Americans that have made a profound impact within Assembly District 15 and beyond.

Black History Month recognizes key contributions made by African Americans throughout our nation's history.

The first person that we will be recognizing is Carter Godwin Woodson:

Carter G. Woodson, Founder of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History

Recognized as the "Father of Black History," Carter G. Woodson began a program known as Black History Week to encourage the study of historical contributions made by African Americans. Black History Week set the foundation for what we now know as Black History Month.
