Assemblymember Grayson's Statement on California Values Act

For immediate release:

(Concord, CA) – Today, Assemblymember Timothy S. Grayson (D-Concord) released the following statement regarding SB 54.

“While a final version of SB 54 has yet to reach the Assembly floor for a vote, I wholeheartedly support the principles of the legislation. The Trump administration continues to threaten and undermine our Nation's values by threatening immigrant communities. We must provide safety and certainty for immigrant men, women, and children who are contributing daily to the very fiber of our state."

Grayson, a vocal advocate for comprehensive and substantive immigration reform, has been supportive of the intent behind the legislation since it was introduced and has worked with key stakeholders as it has moved through the legislative process.

SB 54, known as the California Values Act, seeks to limit the federal government’s ability to use state and local law enforcement resources to detain and deport undocumented immigrants if they have not committed serious or violent crimes. The bill, which has been amended since it was passed by the Senate, is currently in the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

Tim Grayson represents the 14th Assembly District that includes the communities of Benicia, Concord, Clayton, Martinez, Pleasant Hill, Vallejo, Pittsburg and Walnut Creek. For more information please visit the Assemblymember’s website, www.assembly.ca.gov/a14.
