(SACRAMENTO) – Tonight, the Assembly passed a package of bills aimed at addressing the housing shortage across California.
After the bills were passed, Assemblymember Timothy S. Grayson (D-Concord) said, “The long-term solution to addressing our housing crisis is to allow supply to catch up to demand. I’m proud to have coauthored SB 35, which was included in this package and will help to streamline the approval process for new developments in some of the most impacted communities.”
“Tonight, we took a big step towards addressing our housing crisis, but it’s only a first step. I look forward to continuing to explore innovative solutions, like promoting housing growth in communities near existing transit hubs, with my colleagues in the next legislative session,” Grayson concluded.
Several provisions were in the housing-related bills passed, including a bond measure that will provide up to $3 billion for affordable housing and $1 billion for veteran housing. California is currently experiencing a dramatic shortage of housing which disproportionately affects working and middle class families. A recent report by the California Department of Housing and Community Development estimated California is short about 1.5 million rental units for these families.
Tim Grayson represents the 14th Assembly District that includes the communities of Benicia, Concord, Clayton, Martinez, Pleasant Hill, Vallejo, Pittsburg and Walnut Creek.
