A group of California lawmakers and advocates announced multiple proposals today to address California's housing crisis by giving tenants throughout the state greater protections. The bills would give localities more flexibility to stabilize rental prices, protect tenants across the state from large rent increases, prevent unfair evictions, and collect data about the California rental market.
Sacramento, Calif. — Assemblymember Buffy Wicks (D-Oakland) is championing AB 1760, “Privacy for All” to strengthen California’s consumer privacy laws by giving consumers additional control of how their personal information is shared and tools to hold companies accountable.
Richmond, Calif. — Flanked by leaders of the United Ways of California, the Children’s Defense Fund of California, and Richmond’s RYSE Youth Center, Assemblymember Buffy Wicks (D-Oakland) announced her bill, AB 875, to reestablish California’s Healthy Start program to connect children and families with critical services to improve health and academic outcomes and remedy trauma and violence.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — This week, Assemblymember Buffy Wicks (D-Oakland) introduced a suite of legislation to address California’s housing crisis and also announced that she would be coauthoring several other housing bills. Wicks’ bills take a multipronged approach to protect renters, promote affordable housing, and produce new housing for Californians at all income levels.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. —Yesterday, Assemblymember Buffy Wicks (D-Oakland) introduced AB 765, the California Healthy Checkout Aisles for Healthy Families Act, which would prohibit stores from placing sugar-sweetened beverages at checkout aisles.
“The evidence is clear: the sugar-sweetened beverage industry is fueling a public health crisis of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease,” said Wicks. “My bill helps consumers stick to healthier choices by stopping the manipulative practice of putting sugar-sweetened beverages at the checkout line.”
