Thurmond, State Assembly Adjourn in Memory of John Knox

Friday, April 7, 2017

(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Tony Thurmond (D-Richmond) and the State Assembly adjourned the April 6, 2017 floor session in the memory of former California Assemblyman John T. Knox who passed away two days earlier. Knox, a long time Richmond resident, was elected to the California Assembly in 1960 and served two decades in the Assembly, including four years as Speaker Pro Tem from 1976-1980. Assemblymember Thurmond pointed out that Knox was so well respected in his district that in 1974 and 1976, he was actually nominated by the Republican Party through write in votes, in addition to receiving the Democratic Party nomination.
