SACRAMENTO, CA – Assemblymember Anamarie Avila Farias (D-Martinez) issued the following statement today in response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s release of the 2025–26 May Revision Budget:
“The May Budget Revision highlights the difficult choices we face—but it’s deeply disappointing that California, the world’s fourth-largest economy, is in this position. Too many families are already burdened by the high cost of housing, food, energy, and healthcare—and this budget threatens to deepen that strain.”
Budgeting must not come at the expense of our most vulnerable—seniors, veterans, children, low-income families, and people with disabilities. Cuts to public health and essential services jeopardize community safety, access to care, and the integrity of our justice system.
We should be investing in people and rebuilding our economy—not dismantling the support systems they depend on. I’m encouraged by the Governor’s commitment to wildfire prevention and the creation of a Department of Housing and Homelessness, which directly impacts families in Contra Costa County.
As we move forward, I’ll continue advocating for a balanced, compassionate budget that protects core services and uplifts the communities who need us most,” said Assemblymember Avila Farias
Assemblymember Avila Farias represents California’s 15th Assembly District, which includes cities and communities across Contra Costa County, many of which are directly affected by wildfire risk, housing instability, and healthcare access disparities.
