ACR-5 (Holden): Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: designates that January 16, 2017 be observed as the official memorial of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birth and commemorates Dr. King and the work he did to progress public policy from segregation to integration, which has had a profound impact on California policy (including the passage of the Unruh Civil Rights Act and the Rumford Fair Housing Act); iterates that the California Legislature recognizes the value of, and encourages participation in, community service and volunteerism to carry on the work of Dr. King in order to make progress in equality

ACR-11 (Baker): Designates every January as Cervical Cancer Screening and Awareness Month; encourages all Californians, including the State Department of Public Health and the State Department of Health Care Services, to observe the month and promote screening and educational outreach to women and the medical community, and develop programs to raise awareness about the causes of, symptoms of, and screening for, cervical cancer.

HR-4 (Rendon): States that the Assembly condemns bigoted speech that would incite hatred and violence against the immigrant community; implores the President-elect and Congress to develop rational immigration policies that recognize the contributions of immigrants to the nation, not to pursue mass deportation strategies, and to continue President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA)

HR-8 (Waldron): Recognizes the month of February 2017 as American Heart Month in California in order to raise awareness of the importance of the ongoing fight against heart disease and stroke; recognizes February 3, 2017, as Wear Red Day in California, and urges all citizens to show their support for women and the fight against heart disease by commemorating this day by wearing the color red
