(Sacramento) – The California State Assembly declared March 18-24 as Down Syndrome Awareness Week and March 21 as Down Syndrome Awareness Day by adopting Assembly Concurrent Resolution 165 authored by Assemblymember Timothy Grayson (D-Concord). “Down Syndrome is the most commonly occurring chromosomal condition in the U.S. Down Syndrome affects one in 700 births, nearly 6,000 babies each year,” Grayson said. “This Resolution will provide much needed public awareness to Down Syndrome by encouraging allocation of resources and advocacy support to the Down Syndrome community.” During the presentation, a number of individuals with Down Syndrome whom are achieving great things in their lives and several organizations that provide support to the Down Syndrome Community were recognized.
